Isotretinoin (Roaccutane/Accutane) Home Monitoring: A step-by-step guide

This step-by-step guide shows you how to perform home pregnancy tests, allowing you to safely use isotretinoin (Roaccutane/Accutane) as your doctor has prescribed.

Pregnancy test

In your pack, you will find several urine pregnancy tests for you to use throughout your treatment course. After every test, you will need to send us confirmation of the result. Once we receive your results, we will be able to safely prescribe the medication to you.

Please note, we need confirmation after every pregnancy test you do. If we don’t hear from you around the date and you are due a test, our team will send you a reminder. Unfortunately, if we do not receive confirmation, we will be unable to continue your prescription, and you risk running out.

For best results, please perform the test first thing in the morning and ensure the test kit is stored at room temperature.

Tests are only valid for 7 days so consider when you want to perform the test, so the result does not expire. As a guide:

  • For new starters we suggest performing a test on the same day you get your screening blood test results back.
  • For follow up appointments, we normally suggest performing a test on the morning of your appointment.

If you are having any issues, please contact us via hello@skindoc.uk (mailto:hello@skindoc.uk) and we will gladly help.

Step 1

  • Open and remove the test stick from the packet then take off the coloured cap.
  • Hold the stick by the handle with the exposed tip pointing downward.
  • Urinate directly onto the testing grid (the 5 holes) and hold for 5 seconds making sure you do not get urine into the test window.
  • Alternatively, you can urinate into a clean, dry container and dip the tip/grid in for 5 seconds but make sure not to immerse the tip past the 5 holes.
  • - After 5 seconds, replace the coloured cap over the tip, lay the stick flat with the testing window facing up. Results may be visible after 1 minute but wait up to 10 minutes to confirm.
  • Discard the test after use and wash your hands.

Step 2

If the pregnancy test is negative, take a photograph of the negative result next to something with a date stamp indicating the day you did the test. Examples include the print date of a physical or online newspaper, the date on a mobile phone or computer calendar, or a screenshot with the time/date/location geo-data.

WARNING: If your pregnancy test is positive, you must stop your medication and contact us immediately. Your doctor will be in touch soon after with advice on what to do.

If there is no visible control line, discard the test and repeat it with a new one.

Step 3

Logon to you skindoc account, head to ‘My Bookings’ and send your confirmation through to us for the relevant appointment. If you are struggling you can always email it to us at hello@skindoc.uk (mailto:hello@skindoc.uk)

Step 4

If everything is OK, put your feet up and our team will be in touch. Please remember to repeat these steps as per the schedule determined by your doctor.
