Hello, I am Dr Albert Sunghwan Hong. I obtained my medical degree from Imperial College London with a distinction and did my medical training in London. Afterwards, I spent a year working in clinical research trials in dermatology at the Royal London before completing my dermatology training in the Kent, Surrey, and Sussex deanery. It is a fascinating time to be a dermatologist because there is so much research happening in our field. I have been involved in national and international research projects on skin conditions such as actinic keratosis and hidradenitis suppurativa and I am still part of a research team looking at skin cancer risks with different drugs. I have received multiple accolades as a trainee including the La Roche-Posay Photodermatology Award.
What I love about dermatology is that we can often make a diagnosis in clinic then and there. It can be quite a satisfying experience for patients to know what is going on with their skin and I would be very happy to be on that journey with you. Sometimes, the diagnosis may not be as obvious and you may need further investigations like a blood test or a biopsy and I will explain these to you so that you understand what we are doing.
While I love working as a dermatologist, I must admit that there are other things that I enjoy besides work. Although I have lived in London for over ten years (as a Korean-Canadian), I am still in awe of all the cultural experience that London offers and you may find me wandering around the Barbican or checking out the new exhibition at Tate Modern.
